How the Combination of Liposuction and a Tummy Tuck Can Maximize Your Results

Liposuction and a tummy tuck often work well together to minimize trauma and recovery time after your body contouring procedure. According to a study published in the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, patients having the combined procedures are seeing excellent results and very low risks of complication.

This technique is being called, lipoabdominoplasty, because of the combination of the two procedures – with abdominoplasty being the medical term for the tummy tuck. The study presented an in-depth look at a five year span of patients receiving the combination procedure.

HOW IS IT DONE?

Like a mommy makeover, lipoabdominoplasty is a combination of more than one procedure, in this case, liposuction and abdominoplasty.

Patients will undergo liposuction first in order to remove any excess fat from the areas to be treated. A tummy tuck would then follow to remove any leftover skin or tissue that liposuction cannot address on its own.

When using this combination technique, you can also avoid the need for drainage during your procedure because the liposuction prevents fluid from collecting between the skin and abdominal muscle. This means less time spent recovering and less trauma during the procedure.

Although pairing liposuction with a tummy tuck is not necessary, the results that they offer when together are well worth it. Patients experience shorter recovery, less nausea, and tummy tuck scars that are more easily kept low and out of sight.
