Summer vacation may be over, but there’s still time to send summer off with a bang! Get the kids up off the couch and away from video games with these family friendly activities in Boston.

Explore Boston Harbor Islands

Kids love exploring the outdoors and there’s no better place than Boston Harbor Islands. This National and State Park is home to America’s oldest light station and a scenic beach that’s perfect for one last playful day in the sand. Bring your littlest ones to Toddler Tuesdays where preschoolers can go on a nature walk, explore the beach, and enjoy storytelling.

Check Out an IMAX movie at New England Aquarium

The New England Aquarium is one of the best kid activities in Boston. Watching the penguins, sea turtles, and harbor seals is a fun way to get children (and adults!) engaged in the natural world. An IMAX movie is an exciting way to pass time between exhibits or makes a great afternoon activity all on its own.

Storytelling at Faneuil Hall Marketplace

Encourage your kiddos to gather around a captivating storyteller to hear some of Boston’s most riveting tales. Catch professional storytellers at Faneuil Hall Marketplace every Tuesday through the end of October at the new outdoor reading room on South Market Street.

Camel Trek at Franklin Park Zoo

The Franklin Park Zoo is home to all kinds of exciting animals. Where else in Boston can you meet a zebra and a kangaroo in the same day? Add some extra fun to your visit with a camel ride. You can also get a “camel’s eye” view of the zoo or get to know a giraffe up close at one of the park’s many add-on attractions.

Friday Night at the Boston Children’s Museum

Explore any of the famed Boston Children’s Museum exhibits during the museum’s $1 admission night, every Friday from 5-9 p.m. Help your little ones dig, climb, and create a city in Construction Zone or encourage older kids to learn about a different culture at the Japanese House exhibit.

Stroll Through the Public Garden

Most everyone loves Boston’s Public Garden, and children are no exception! They can climb on the Make Way for Ducklings sculpture and see the classic children’s story come to life. Kiddos can also make a wish at one of the many fountains or play hide and seek among the park’s majestic trees. You can even jump on a swan boat to see the park in style!
