Ear Pinning Surgery

Otoplasty is the answer for those who are embarrassed by ears that they feel are too large or prominent for their head. This short surgery can make ears less noticeable by setting prominent ears back closer to the head or reducing their size.

Otoplasty is generally done on children between the ages of 4 and 14 but there are no additional risks associated with ear surgery on the adult patient.

The surgery usually entails making an incision in the back of the ear and performing corrective procedures on the cartilage in order to reduce the prominence and improve the contour. Most patients recover quickly and return home the same day.

In most cases, ear surgery will leave a faint scar in the back of the ear that will fade with time.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia.
