Laser skin resurfacing with our dual-pulsed erbium YAG laser is an effective treatment for scars, sun damage, and signs of aging. The laser basically vaporizes the outermost layers of skin to remove imperfections and stimulate the body’s healing response.
Benefits of erbium laser skin resurfacing:
- Improvement of wrinkles and scars
- Improvement of uneven pigmentation
- Improvement in skin tone and texture
- More comfortable than Co2 laser resurfacing
- More effective than light peels or microdermabrasion
While laser resurfacing treatment on the face often takes less than 30 minutes, the procedure often brings a dramatic improvement of fine wrinkles, especially around the mouth and the eyes. Brown spots on the face, neck and chest may disappear as well.
Laser skin resurfacing treatment
Treatment with the erbium laser will involve the application of laser energy in a uniform scanning technique over the forehead, cheeks, lower face, and sometimes the neck and chest. We often use a topical anesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable.
After laser resurfacing
Post procedure discomfort is mild to moderate and typically resolved by the first or second day. Patients typically return to work 1-4 days after treatment. The treated skin will exhibit redness that resembles sunburn and possibly some mild swelling. Within a week, the skin on the treated area will peel and brighter, clearer skin will start to emerge.
How many treatments are needed?
Good results can be achieved with one treatment, but certain patients may benefit from a series of laser skin resurfacing treatments. It often depends on skin type and skin thickness.
We offer a variety of skin renewal procedures at Boston Plastic Surgery. If you are unsure about which treatment will be most appropriate for you, call us to schedule a consultation. Our office telephone number is (617) 786-7600.
