Nearly half of all Canadian women have seriously considered having cosmetic surgery, according to survey results detailed in a recent article from the Canada Newswire.

This information was gleaned through the largest cosmetic surgery-based research survey in Canadian history, with more than 2,000 women involved. The survey focused on a range of issues, including body image, aging, self-confidence and friendships.

Breast Augmentation, Tummy Tuck Both Leading Procedures

Canadian women are more interested than ever in surgical procedures of the breast, such as breast augmentation and breast lifts. They are also very focused on abdominal procedures, such as tummy tucks and liposuction.

Dr. Mitchell Brown, a cosmetic surgeon from Toronto, explains this the following way, “Age, genetics, important milestones such as having children and losing or gaining weight can all impact the body – especially the stomach and breast areas, which can be difficult to change through diet and exercise alone… My patients are looking for a natural look and today that is absolutely achievable.”

Other statistical findings of the survey include:

  • 39% of Canadian women feel the most confident they’ve ever felt about their body
  • 62% wish they could change the effects aging has had on their body
  • 37% say they adjust their diet and exercise to prepare for bikini season

The most common motivation for undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures, according to the new survey, is to improve self-esteem. The next most common factor is being able to trust a professional surgeon to handle the procedure.

The stomach is the biggest area of concern for Canadian women, with 66% expressing personal issues about this area. Tummy tucks and liposuction are common treatment methods for such stomach concerns. Breast concerns come next, with 32% of women reporting dissatisfaction with this portion of their body. Breast augmentation, fat grafting, breast lifts and breast reduction may all be performed to provide a more suitable cosmetic alternative.
